Chiang Mai - Luang Prabang

 Our last day in Chiang Mai was another lazy day. We started in this little breakfast place just down the street from our hotel. Yummy breakfast and then we were ready to go back to the hotel and chill by the pool.




We were saving ourselves for a trip to the Saturday Night Market. We took off around 5pm and within minutes were immersed in a chaotic mass of people, food and stuff. We didn’t have much interest in the stuff as it was the usual stuff we had seen at every other market. We were hungry and wondered through the food stalls and foraged. Ricki found some grilled chicken skewers that she liked and even went back for doubles. Our work was done for the evening and we headed back.









The next day we got ourselves ready for our flight to Laos. The flight was at 3pm and by 4 we were in Luang Prabang. Our hotel didn’t disappoint and was another wonderful place to stay.it’s a large room with a large balcony overlooking the Mekong River….magical.

Packed and Ready to Roll - Day -1

 No attacks on Turkish airspace so we're leaving tomorrow as planned. First stop on our way to Bangkok is Istanbul. It's an 11 hour flight and we'll breakup the trip by spending a night in Istanbul. We arrive early Tuesday morning and will rest up for the day and have tickets to see the Whirling Dervishes in the evening. We very much enjoyed seeing a similar performance in Cairo last year and are looking forward to seeing it again. We fly out the next day at 12:40 and arrive in Bangkok later that day.

Bangkok - Day 5

 Good news…Ricki is back to regular. Yesterday (it’s now Sunday morning) we set off early for the Chatchuk weekend market. It’s probably the world’s biggest outdoor market with a chaotic swirl of people, merchants and stuff. We wondered around for a little bit but it was hot and we couldn’t manufacture any reason to buy another t-shirt,etc. so we got ourselves a foot massage and grabbed a taxi back to the hotel. Back at the hotel we went up to the pool and just chilled. After resting up (napping) we headed out to a seafood restaurant we saw on Instagram…the cab ride took almost 45 minutes ($5) and brought us to a part of town that was just jumping. It was near a university and the streets were just lined with restaurants and young people. It’s just a constant amazement to us how big and vibrant this city is. Our meal was mostly good but we give the restaurant an A+ for vibe. A little post dinner stroll and then back to the hotel.

Bangkok -Day 3&4 Good New/Bad News

 I’ll start off by saying our hotel is great…23rd floor overlooking the Chao Prya river and all of Bangkok . The not so good news is that Ricki is not feeling well. The flight from Istanbul was not so bad but long ( 9+ hours) and we passed out again as soon as we got to the hotel. We woke up the next morning…went to breakfast (great buffet) and as soon as we got back Ricki started feeling nauseous…that continued through the day which just became a rest day.  Today (Friday) we left the hotel to run some errands but after an hour or so out Ricki started feeling unwell and so we went back to the hotel. That’s where we are now trying to figure out what we can/should do. Ricki thinks she might be able to go out for dinner…we’ll see.
